About the Artist
Katy Phillipps is a Black British artist, doctor, and mother whose work explores the intersection of identity, embodiment, and creative healing. Her bold visual language—spanning abstract acrylics and digital collage—centres the plus-size female form, neurodivergent expression, and the experience of existing outside mainstream acceptability.
Katy works as a medical doctor, where creativity is often sidelined in the face of structure, science, and survival. It wasn’t until the birth of her daughter that a long-silenced part of her reemerged—the artist within. Motherhood became a portal, and art became medicine: a way to process, reclaim, and express what had long been unspoken.
As a Black, neurodivergent woman, Katy is no stranger to marginalisation. Her work challenges dominant narratives by celebrating what is often erased—big bodies, chaotic thoughts, loud joy. Through bright, unapologetic palettes and collage compositions, she carves out space for bodies and minds that don't conform.
Katy is the founder of Bold by Katy, a multidisciplinary creative studio and plus-size fashion brand that transforms her artwork into wearable statements of resistance and joy.
